Aftercare Instructions
Healing Using Derm Shield:
1. After your artist applies the Derm Shield to your new tattoo you will leave the clear bandage on for 5-7 days.
2. You may shower freely with the bandage but be sure to avoid too much hot water contact as it can loosen the bandage adhesive. Also avoid waterlogging activities such as pools, saunas, and hot tubs.
3. Over the first few days the Derm Shield will begin to accumulate plasma and ink which will create a small sack. As the bandage contains micro-openings that allow air to flow into the tattoo, the plasma will dry over the first few days and will create a firm barrier over the tattoo.
4. After 5-7 days you can remove the bandage. We recommend you remove the bandage under warm running water while peeling slowly. There will be an image of your healed tattoo on the bandage, this is normal and does not affect the tattoo.
5. Once removed you can wash and lotion your tattoo normally. It is now fully healed.
6. Some people go through a secondary peel after removing the bandage which is totally normal.
7. If the Derm Shield comes off before the 5-7 days or begins leaking profusely you can either contact your artist for a rebandage or you can heal per the Dry Healings Instructions.
Dry Healing Method:
1. Leave the protective covering on the tattoo overnight. In the morning, after washing hands with warm water, remove the covering and gently rinse the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap rubbing the plasma and ink away gently until the tattoo appears clean.
2. Let the tattoo airdry for 1-15 minutes and never use towels to dry the tattoo as fabric towels can harbor bacteria.
3. Repeat this process once to twice a day for the first week.
4. After 4-5 days, once your tattoo becomes visibly dry and begins to peel you can use a small amount of white unscented hand lotion or coconut oil to gentle massage into the tattoo. Be careful not to over moisturize as that can cause scabbing and irritation.
5. Do not wear tight fitting clothing over the tattoo for the first week.
6. Do not waterlog the tattoo in pools, baths, saunas or hot tubs for the first 10 days. Showers are fine but avoid too much hot water contact that will irritate your tattoo.
7. Healing times vary but a tattoo will usually heal in 10-14 days using this method.
IF FOR ANY REASON YOU BEGIN TO DEVELOP A REACTION (PAIN, ITCHING, REDNESS) UNDER THE BANDAGE REMOVE IMMEDIATELY, CLEAN, AND DRY HEAL.
